ATHENS, the capital and cultural hub of Greece: 1 night
We’ll start our adventure in the heart of Athens, beneath the Acropolis at a 4-star boutique hotel within walking distance to restaurants and shops. On our first evening we will gather for a welcome dinner with an opportunity for everyone to get acquainted and to sample some traditional Greek “mezedes” and other local specialties at a nearby restaurant.
HYDRA, Saronic Island known as the Artists’ Muse: 6 nights
Morning transfer by minibus to the Piraeus, the port of Athens. Next travel by ferry (2 hours) through small islands and rock formations that conjure up images from myth and lore. Upon arrival we’ll walk to our hotel. There are no motor vehicles on the island; donkeys carry goods and supplies, and the luggage of visitors to their hotels. The narrow alleyways that make up the main town are adorned with colorful Bougainvillea and brightly painted doors. The island is known for its art galleries and quiet life-style making it the perfect place to unwind and get inspired. Upon arrival, enjoy a light lunch in our hotel’s courtyard. In the evening gather for a welcome dinner of local specialties. For the next days your senses will be titillated by the scenery, the food, and music. You’ll learn why Hydra is called the artists’ island.
3-hour workshop with Charles Vandersluys, Professional Photographers of America Master Photographer, doing a walking tour with you to explain lighting and how to use your digital camera to get the right settings on your camera for the scene in front of you.
Charles will also discuss how to photograph your work for jury, exhibition and publications. Charles will do a PR shot for each of you to use for your own personal or promotional purposes. This workshop is included complimentary to IPAP members/non-member fee $60.00 US
A Paint Out ‘Quick Draw’ session & a ‘Wet Paint’ Sale with some proceeds going to the local island volunteer organization Hydra Ark (included for IPAP members, others welcome to participate for a $45 US fee).
Endless opportunities to paint, discuss your art, and hear from others. Enjoy working independently among a group of creative people on the “Artists’ Island” as Hydra is known.
Optional activities on the island include hikes and walks; visits to the Museum of Archives of Hydra and the Lazaros Koundouriotis Mansion, both of which tell the fascinating history of Hydra and exhibit the works of modern Greek artists. Explore artists’ galleries. Visit beaches accessible by foot or motorboat. It is possible to take excursions to the nearby islands of Poros and/or Spetses. If we have enough participants interested in a day trip to the Peloponnesus; a private tour of the archaeological sites of Epidaurus, Corinth and Mycenae will be offered for an additional cost.
